Sometimes it’s hard to come to terms with these horrible feelings. At first, you really don’t get it – you don’t know what’s wrong. We don’t always know or even question our feelings. You just push forward to get through the day. You push it away – try to ignore how you feel. Don’t stop – don’t talk about it – keep moving – keep working – hoping it will go away. What’s wrong with me – why can’t I shake this ?………….What am I talking about….It’s called Bloggers Block!
A quick Google search on Bloggers Block resulted in 1,180,000 results so at least I’m not alone. There are many suggestions to try to overcome this and I’ve listed these below so they may be of some help to others. Me? Looking at the date of my last post I’ve been trying out number 6, well that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!
1. Lower your expectations – It’s a blog not a novel
2. Start with a headline – brainstorm a number of headlines, even if you dont write them you’ll have a generated a number of ideas for the future
3. End with a deadline – if you don’t have one you’ll never finish it
4. Write at Dawn not at Dusk – you’ll never have the excuse of ‘I’ve had a long day’ or ‘I’m too tired to write’
5. Capture ideas before you lose them – Ideas for blogs come when you least expect them. It happens as you’re walking the dog, reading the paper, surfing the internet, or even on the toilet. Write them down!
6. Take a break! – Who says you have to blog non-stop or even every day! Go to the gym, go to the movies, take a holiday, and spend time with your loved ones. After all, doing something different is what inspired some of us to blog in the first place. If you don’t blog today, the world doesn’t end.
