A new Corporate Governance Code was issued today by the Financial Reporting Council, which for the first time requires Boards to ‘ Pay due regard to the benefits of diversity on the Board, including gender’.
Only 12% of Directors in the FTSE 100 companies are women and this drops to 7% in the medium sized companies making up the FTSE 250.
Other significant changes include Directors submitting to annual election and for large Boards to be subject to appraisal by outside experts.
