Virgin Media and Vodafone dominated the second annual Top 10 Broadband Awards tonight, winning two awards each to emerge as the year’s fastest home and mobile broadband providers.
The awards are based on over 1.5 million customer ratings and 400,000 speed tests conducted on the Top 10 Broadband website.
Virgin Media won the Broadband Innovation award for its 50Mb product and was named Fastest Home Broadband provider. Vodafone was the Fastest Mobile Broadband supplier and the supplier of the UK’s Best Rated Mobile Broadband.
Alex Buttle, Director at Top10 Broadband, said: “Most Brits are getting more broadband choice and better broadband service than ever. These awards also demonstrate how competitive the broadband market is in 2009, with no single provider dominating the categories.”
The judges were impressed by Virgin Media, which won the Fastest Broadband and Broadband Innovation awards. In their commendation, the judges said: “At a time when the average UK broadband speed is hovering around the 4Mb mark and concerns are being raised over the UK’s technological infrastructure, Virgin Media’s investment into providing customers with a 50Mb fibre-optic product is a next-generation service today.”
