The recent Efficiency Review by Sir Philip Green has highlighted some of the more outrageous purchasing decisions by government. The Report contains many examples of wastage, but it also highlights the underlying reasons, which come partly from the huge scale of the government machine, but also from the lack of coordination and communication.
