In The Business Club’s North London January 2009 Newsletter Stephen Gaubert highlighted the need for SMEs to manage their costs, and set out some key things to look at, including seeking professional procurement advice.
‘As the Recession starts to bite all businesses should take the opportunity to review their essential overhead costs to ensure that they are getting best value. It is estimated that over 90% of businesses could reduce their annual overheads by at least 15% and with SME inflation running at nearly 10% there is no excuse for delay.
There are a number of key things to look at – these include checking the invoices against the agreement and Purchase Orders, diarise key renewal dates, compare prices in the market and with business partners, look at ways of reducing consumption and improving energy efficiency, and most importantly – seek professional procurement advice.
