Why reducing overheads matters in a recession

18 Jun 2010 | Filed under: Uncategorized

Is the recession over?  Many of the people I meet at networking events think that the economic situation has not improved yet.  The architects (always a leading indicator) are finding life even tougher.  So what do you do?  Here are some very obvious pointers:-

  1.  Increases Sales Effort – get more revenue
  2.  Increase Marketing effort – find new products and markets
  3. Improve operational efficency – get more bangs for your buck
  4. Reduce Overheads – release money to invest in the first three

This last one is more important than is immediately apparent.  Every business has overheads, yet most of them are too busy running their business to give them the attention they need.

Managing overheads requires

  1. Market Intelligence
  2. Good Supplier relationships
  3. Dedication

One solution is to outsource the management of overheads to specialists who can supply all three of these whilst saving you money, and just as importantly, management time.
