All organisations that had at least one Half Hourly Electricity meter used in 2008 are required to act. The deadline for registering under the CRC scheme is 30th September 2010. Government estimates indicate that around 20,000 public and private sector organisations will be required to participate in some way. The majority of these will simply be required to make information disclosures about their electricity usage. Failure to make an information disclosure will lead to a £500 fine per unregistered meter.
(You can identify if you have a Half Hourly supply easily by looking at the MPAN number on your electricity invoice – if it starts ‘00’ it will be a half hourly supply).
To register, you will need to provide information about your organisation’s group structure and information about your total electricity supply during 2008. The scheme’s administrators have indicated that they will be verifying this information which means that you need to ensure your application is submitted before the end of August to ensure the 30th September deadline is met.
