Keen to win back lost business in the increasingly competitive Telecoms market, BT are embarking on an aggressive marketing campaign targeting small businesses with their latest offer. The headline is unlimited calls to UK landlines, mobiles and major International destinations all for a fixed price of £15 per month. On the face of it this sounds like a very attractive deal and it may well prove to be so for many businesses.
But some of BT’s competitors are angry about the bold claims being made in the advertising. Particularly regarding the fair usage policy attached to the unlimited call offer, which they argue is being hidden from customers. In actual fact the ‘unlimited’ call plan really means 5000 mins to landlines and 300 mins to mobiles when the fair usage policy is applied. This may not be an issue for many customers, but it is something to be aware of when comparing against other providers.
Regardless of the advertising standards, this new call plan from BT really does look competitive for a change and I will certainly be taking a closer look on behalf of some of my clients. But one thing that hasn’t been made clear is whether or not existing BT customers can qualify for the new plan. I’ve heard contradictory reports from various sources within BT, but the offer is clearly aimed at winning new business and could be withdrawn at short notice.
