Thanks to Alistair Macdonald of amtv for an enlightening talk this morning at Business Network on the 7 Rules of Business Networking:
- Be there
- Give to Get
- Look good (visual impressions are so important)
- Be Interested (be a good listener)
- Business cards – look upon them as a tool. They should have enough white space on them for people to make notes on them about you
- You are only selling yourself
- FUKIT – Follow Up, Keep In Touch
Alistair had some great anecdotes and I’ve now realised that to spice up my round the table presentations at networking meetings, I must tell them that I play bass guitar in a rock band as let’s face it, utility bills can be a bit dull at times!
