Ofcom orders mobile companies to reduce call charges

Ofcom has ordered the mobile industry to reduce the wholesale call charge from 4.3p a minute to 0.5p a minute by 2015.

This has been greeted by howls of rage from the industry and they will doubtless challenge this Ofcom ruling. But the trend in the cost of calls has been downward from the outset with a minute costing 23p in 1995.

As a consumer, to obtain the best deal, you need to have an understanding of the technology available, how it can save you time and money, your exact usage profile and be able to compare like with like offers either direct from the networks or the many hundreds of resellers.
