The European Commission, Europe’s top competition authority, has given the go-ahead for the merger of Orange UK and T-Mobile UK, on condition that the two companies change their existing network sharing agreements with a third smaller player, Hutchison Whampoa’s 3UK, to “ensure that there remain sufficient competitors in the market”.
But it looks like a shrinking of the market to me as we continue the trend towards fewer larger companies dominating the market. What that means for the consumer is usually less choice. And it will be interesting to see what effect on end-user prices this will bring.
