Beware of energy contract related scams!

The energy market, like many others, has its share of unscrupulous cowboys. I’d like to name names, but, obviously, I can’t do that. So treat this as a general warning to be wary of scams like this.

“’Hi, I’m calling from [Name of Cowboy] – our system shows that your supply has not yet been registered and you do not have a contract”

Or “I see you’ve just signed a new electricity contract. You need to register your meter with us”

Don’t fall for these tricks. They’re scams, no more and no less. Only the energy companies themselves have authorised access to the central database for the industry that does indeed show who supplies a particular meter. You are not obliged to register your meter with anyone. It is supplied when you set up the premises and thereafter is serviced by a Meter Operator working with your electricity supplier.
