Driving down cost – and keeping it down!

cost-management-not-just-cost-cutting

Cost-cutting is the flavour of the moment. You can’t open a newspaper or listen to a news bulletin without hearing of someone else cutting costs. Redundancies, axing advertising, retrenching – these are the keywords of the impending recession. Britain’s biggest companies are all at it. For smaller companies, these major cost-cutting initiatives may not always be possible – or even make sense. Making staff redundant when you don’t have many may be the equivalent of shooting yourself in the foot and what will a reduction in your small advertising spend actually achieve.  For the smaller business, you have to look at all your costs and in particular those that may not be in your primary area of focus – the overheads that represent just the cost of doing business. The attached PDF looks at this together with the all-important matter of cost management not just cost reduction.
I intend to use this blog to keep readers aware of issues, stories and trends in this area of essential business cost management. I want to make this as dynamic and interactive a forum as possible so welcome comments, thoughts and suggestions. Please feel free to post your comments.
