10 key questions to ask yourself

- Do you have someone responsible for reviewing your overheads and the hidden internal costs of managing these overheads?
- Do you regularly check that you are getting best value from your suppliers?
- Do you check that all bills are correct, looking for overcharges and anomalies in usage?
- Do you know the key renewal dates/notice periods for your contracts?
- Do you monitor staff use of telecommunications and other business services?
- Do you regularly review the adequacy of your business insurance?
- Do you have effective controls on the purchasing of stationery and other consumables?
- Have you looked at the opportunities for becoming more energy efficient?
- Do you know your obligations for the correct disposal of waste?
- Do you tender all available suppliers when contracts are due for renewal?
If you have answered no to any of these questions then you could be paying more for your overheads than you should.
