A water leak could cost you £17,000

24 Oct 2008 | Filed under: Industry Comment

The majority of companies think their overheads costs like gas, electricity and water are in check and pay their bills month on month with little thought. Brian James a Cannock Furniture Retailer would certainly admit that they fitted into this bracket. When I sat down and spoke with Michael Bailey, the founder of the company who have been in business 24 years, he was happy for me to conduct an audit of his water expenditure and genuinely believed that nothing could be done about the bills he was paying. You can therefore imagine the surprise he got when presented with a cheque from South Staffs Water for £17,868.71 for a rebate that had accumulated unbeknown to them for over 8 years.

Unfortunately cases like this aren’t rare and many organisation may be paying out far more than they need to because of a water leak or incorrect billing in any number of areas. It really pays to use a specialist; it certainly did for Brian James.
